How to Connect with Yourself in a Distracting busy world

How to Connect with Yourself in a Distracting Busy World

Do you ignore what you need or dismiss that niggling feeling in your belly? Instead, begin paying attention to what you want and need daily.

Pay Attention To Your Needs

Each morning check in with yourself regularly. What’s going on in your head, sometimes it helps to write these thoughts down, especially if they are overwhelming

Connect with your heart space, put your hands over your heart and take 5 deep breaths into your heart and ask yourself “What guidance do you have for me today?”

What’s occurring in your body? Close your eyes and begin at your feet, then, move your awareness up through your legs, hips, belly, chest, shoulders, arms, head etc.

Take your time, no need to rush. At each point, focus your attention on that part of your body and ask “How does this part of my body feel today?”

You could also ask questions like

  • “How am I feeling?”
  • “What do I need right now?”
  • “What do I really want?”.

This would be an ideal journaling practice. Once you have the answers write them down and spend time processing what has come up.

“it’s easy to get lost in the day-to-day activities and stresses of  our external environment.”

Focus on your breath

Bring your awareness to your breath, feel each inhale and exhale.  Feel your inhale breath move into through your nose and follow your it all the way down to your belly. Then follow your exhale all the way up and out through your mouth. Take 5 minutes to practise this as often as you can.

Be mindful of your boundaries

Before excepting a commitment, sit with it for a while. Ask your internal compass, “Am I feeling obliged to do this, or do I want to this?” How is your energy feeling about this commitment? Does it feeling draining, or supportive?

Honour your joy

Write out a list of all of the little practices, rituals and activities that you love doing and that make you smile. Try to  make time each day for one of these small things that you brings you joy.

Step into Nature

Step outside into nature, grab an opportunity to take your shoes off and get your toes amongst grass or sand. Connect with all your senses to touch the plants and trees around you.  Fully immerse yourself in what surrounds you and breathe it all in. This is a great grounding technique too!

Take time to nourish yourself

A good night’s sleep, plenty of fresh air, drinking several litres of water, consuming leafy vegetables and cutting out the junk and processed food can work wonders on shifting the energy within your body.  See your body as a temple and respect it.

Sit and meditate

Setting a timer for 5 minutes, close your eyes, bring your attention to breath and connect with yourself.

Begin a journaling practise

Each day write about your thoughts and feelings, and what’s going on in your mind. Explore the inner depths of yourself. Ask yourself what is holding you back? What are your fears your limiting beliefs?  What challenges you are facing?

Discover what your dreams, desires, hopes, wishes are.  Just let the pen and ink flow.

Morning Rituals

Help your day unfold more consciously and deliberately by visualising your day unfolding. Set some intentions  about how you want to feel, how you want to take care of yourself or what you want to achieve.
