How To Create A New Moon Intention Ritual
All matter moves with the Moon’s energy, reminding us that we are a part of something much bigger
The moon is an immensely powerful tool that we can all learn to work with. Our ancestors used the moon phases as markers for passage of time. By tuning in to the rhythms of the lunar cycle we can take a cue from nature and harness its energy.
The New Moon phase represents rebirth. It is time to get still and plant new seeds of desire. It is an ideal time to turn inward and reflect on the past month. A time to breathe new life into any area of stagnation or any place in your life where you would like to impact positive change. Re-centre yourself and set new intentions to feel more aligned. This is also a time to visualise and gain clarity on your goals and dreams.
Moon Rituals are a beautiful way to do something nice for yourself and take some quiet time to listen to your intuition and figure out what you need. The key to creating your own ritual is to find something that feels both special and comfortable for you. Trust your instincts and do what feels natural. To give you an idea here is how I practice my New Moon Ritual.
My New Moon Intentions Ritual
Allow your self some time to drop into this ritual. A time where you won’t be disturbed. Make sure you switch off your mobile phone so that you are interrupted or distracted.
Clear The Energy
Begin by smudging to clear the energy of your space. All the time holding the intention to release any negative heavy energy, and to enhance your space with positivity and light. This can be with either a white sage smudge stick, a bundle of dried rosemary and lavender, Palo Santo or even my MOON RITUAL SPRAY, a gem-infused aromatherapy that clears stagnant, negative energy.
Create A Sacred Space & Altar
This space is place where it feels comforting and special to you. This could be a corner in your bedroom, a shelf, windowsill or a space in another part of your home. Enhance this space with items such as candles, some crystals and maybe even a plant.
I like to incorporate the four elements – EARTH, AIR, WATER, FIRE
Earth – plant, leaf, flower, salt, crystals, or stones.
Air – incense, music, feathers, diffused essential oils.
Fire – a candle, spices, a piece of coal, or something with bright colours like red, orange, yellow or gold.
Water – a small dish of water, a seashell.
Also make sure you have your journal, a pen, either a pillow, blanket or maybe even a sheepskin rug to sit on. A place for you to get comfortable. You could also include a pack of oracle cards, a warming cup of herbal tea, and play some soft music. Maybe even make a Moon Ritual playlist.

Take off your socks and shoes and go and stand outside in your garden for about 10 minutes if possible, under the night sky to feel the New Moon energy. If you don’t have a garden to access, jump in the shower, and use some body salts that contain Epsom salts to help with grounding.
Set Your Intentions
Clear your mind with meditation, using music or just quieting down in your cleared, sacred area. Close your and connect to your breath and tune into yourself. Now is the time to begin writing in your journal your wishes, dreams, intentions, and desires for the days ahead. Always try to be as specific as you can. I recommend writing your intentions in the present tense as “I am..” and “I have…” statements. Remember to revisit your intentions throughout the month.
Oracle Card Guidance
This is an ideal time to use your oracle cards if you some. I like to draw 3 cards to give me some guidance over the coming cycle. Simply shuffle the deck and either wait for some cards to jump out, or just trust your intuition on when to stop and pull a card from the deck.
Use a small clean glass jar, (I use a small kilner jar), and on separate pieces of paper write out your intentions. Put them in the jar with citrine, rose quartz, clear quartz and amethyst crystals to charge up the energy of your desires and pop onto your altar.
Check In With Your Intentions Daily
Revisit your intentions daily in your journal to remind yourself of your dreams and desires for the month ahead. Visualise and imagine what it would feel like and look like to achieve what your heart desires. By paying attention to your intentions daily, you are aligning your energy with them.
